MAYFIELD rocked on Saturday night as villagers celebrated the life of a popular local schoolboy. Ray and Debbie Reeve organised Music on the Meadow as a memorial tribute to their son Lawrence, who died as the result of a road accident last year. Although he admits nothing can compensate for the family’s loss, Ray is happy to report one positive spin-off from the concert – a large sum of money was raised to support young people in the village, particularly the Mayfield multisports project.

More than 3,000 people packed into Court Meadow from the early afternoon to listen to the music of seven local bands. On stage were Intraverse, The Warwick Lowe Band, Knuff Said, Plan B, Dicky Ticker and Scratch. Long after the concert was due to finish headline act Shot to Bits was still performing two encores. The razzmatazz of the event was crowned with a spectacular firework display. The whole evening was organised to exacting standards with professional staging, lighting and sound systems – for extra fun revellers could test out their balance and grip onto a life-like ‘rodeo bull.’
